DIRECTORS

Haewon Jeong

I am an Assistant Professor of AI at UCSB with a focus on Responsible AI and AI for Science. Before, I was a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard SEAS. I completed my Ph.D. and M.Eng. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. I received B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at KAIST.

My research aims to develop theoretically-grounded tools for trustworthy and reliable machine learning systems by drawing ideas from different fields (e.g., Information Theory, Statistics, Machine Learning, Distributed Systems). Discover our recent works!

Nina Miolane

I am an Assistant Professor of AI at UCSB with a focus on AI for Science and AI for Medicine. Before, I was a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford, in the Statistics department. I received my M.S. in Mathematics from Ecole Polytechnique and Imperial College, and my Ph.D. in Computer Science from INRIA in collaboration with Stanford. I used to work as a deep learning software engineer in start-ups of the Silicon Valley.

My research aims to reveal the geometric signatures of natural and artificial intelligence, by using tools from geometry, topology, computer vision, machine learning and deep learning. Discover our recent works!

Yao Qin

I am an Assistant Professor of AI at UCSB with a focus on Responsible AI and AI for Healthcare. Meanwhile, I am also a senior research scientist at Google Research. I obtained my PhD degree at UC San Diego in Computer Science. During my PhD, I was very fortunate to intern under the supervision of Geoffrey Hinton, Ian Goodfellow and many others.

My research aims to develop robust AI systems and to advance AI for healthcare, specifically for diabetes. Discover our recent works!
